As we grow older, it is important to become good role models for our younger peers. In the eyes of the horse, we are never experts, and learning opportunities are endless.  At Sunnyside Farms, we offer an effective, innovative youth program called Leaders-in-Learning.  To date, it is our best multi-year achievement.  At the foundation of this program is a strong network of great people, a nurturing environment, loving farm animals and gentle Fjord Horses.  Together, they foster long-term systemic changes in the lives of the kids in our community.  Because, when there is power in the present, there is hope in the future.

Our Leader-in-Learning program is designed for kids to develop physical and mental wellness through working at the farm.  We provide positive social interactions, and opportunities for deeper connectedness among individuals, giving these kids the confidence and interpersonal skills they need to solve problems now and in their future.  Kids at-risk take on important roles,  have responsibilities and are held accountable.  They develop skills and confidence that bring them out of depression and feelings of anxiety, giving them purpose and identity.

We offer unlimited opportunities for young individuals to work and play under the guidance of Sunnyside interns, staff and volunteers.  Our mentor process allows for youth empowerment and mindfulness in ways that develop a sense of self-worth and importance that many of them would not realize on their own.  Youth get to know that it is possible to choose a better path through their time at Sunnyside and the Fjord Horses offer a mirror to their actions, giving them payment in the form of self-reflection and great experiences to last a lifetime.
