We ask about weight because horses can only carry 20% of their body weight. Most of our Fjords weigh 1,000# +/- so, with a saddle, the maximum weight for riding 150# with a 50# saddle or 200# bareback.

If you haven't been out getting physical exercise for a while, we HIGHLY recommend that you start a month or 2 prior to the internship. You will be spending a substantial amount of time on your feet, grooming horses, lifting loads, doing labor and working hard.

Your work on the farm must be your sole priority for coming. 3. Working on a farm or ranch requires mental and physical flexibility and being able to change plans or "pivot" from the plan afoot. Adaptability is a must. 4. Please be aware that life on any farm or ranch can mean long hours at different or inconvenient times. 5. Everyone enjoys free time. At Sunnyside Farms, the animals come first. This might mean eating a meal later than you like, waking up early or staying up late, working hours and days that are not typical, and not having free time or time off when you would like it.
